WeChat is a mobile text messaging application and voice messaging service created by Tencent in January 2011. The application is available for Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, and Symbian platforms s40 and s60. Languages supported include traditional / simplified Chinese, Spanish, Indonesian, Malay, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Hindi, Russian and English.
WeChat provides multimedia communication with text messaging, on-demand messaging to talk voice, messaging (one-to-many) messaging, photo / video sharing, location sharing, and contact information exchange. WeChat supports social networking via shared streaming content feed and location-based social plug (“Shake”, “Look Around”, and “Drift Bottle”) to chat and connect with local and international users using WeChat.
Photos can be taken and decorated with artistic filters, and placed in a personal photo journal to share with other users. User data is protected through back-up of contacts on demand and recovery from the cloud. WeChat aims to deliver a social networking platform that emphasizes user privacy and rapid response performance.
Wechat is available on the iTunes App Store, Google Play Store for Android, BlackBerry App World and Windows Phone Marketplace.
